Our offices at 3404 Guadalupe Street sit in a really cool Edwardian house built in 1907, when Guadalupe was still a dirt road. It was constructed to be the home for a UT professor and his new bride. They raised their family there and celebrated their extended family until the mid-1970’s when the family sold the property.
In 2000, I met a young woman who had been born in what is now our corporate video production service office. She was 88 at the time and remembered everything about her childhood and the home, the kids on her street, and the trip through the woods to swim in Shoal Creek.
In the years since the family sold the home, and before we acquired it, the building hosted two different hair salons: Scarlet Angel Barbering Company and Horsefeathers. For the first year that we occupied the building – back in 2000 – we had occasional walk-ins for hair styling. One of them even insisted that she had an appointment. I never dreamed that I’d really be able to use the phrase “lady, I can cut your hair, but you’re not gonna like it . . .”
We’ve loved living and working in this house. We have beautiful antique oak and long-leaf pine floors, lots of light through large windows (not the editors’ favorite feature), and incredible century oaks standing guard.
With the onslaught of the gift we call COVID, we’ve worked mostly from home, sharing time in the office on an irregular basis. We’re really looking forward to when we can fully repopulate the Big Pink Video Production House and bring back the sounds of work and family on a daily basis. Come see us then and we’ll have a beer on the porch.
